David Helfrich is a career military veteran following in the footsteps of generations of family heritage with service to this great country. He is a licensed architect who currently works for the Department of Military Affairs in Springfield, Illinois. A lifelong resident of Illinois, Dave spent five years on active duty with assignments in both Ft. Richardson, Alaska, and Ft. Bragg, North Carolina. After active duty, Dave joined the Illinois Army National Guard where he is currently assigned as an engineer officer. Dave spent 2009 deployed to Afghanistan participating in Operation Enduring Freedom (OEF) where he served as an advisor to a Polish infantry battalion. Dave graduated from Southern Illinois University Carbondale with a Bachelor’s of Architectural Studies, and then from the Rhode Island School of Design to complete his Masters of Architecture degree.
Dave currently resides in Freeburg, Illinois with his wife Jennie and their four children, Noah, Haley, Luke and Liam.
Andrew is a career military veteran still currently serving. Throughout his military career, he has served in a variety of assignments at the Company, Battalion, Brigade and Division levels. He has also served as an Officer Candidate School Instructor and TAC Officer.
Andrew’s overseas service includes a year long tour in Korea, three years in Italy and a year long combat deployment to Iraq. Andrew is a graduate of the Army Command and General Staff College, has earned a Bachelor of Arts degree in Criminal Justice from the University of Illinois at Chicago and holds a Master of Arts in Political Science from the University of Illinois at Springfield.
Andrew and his wife, Rachael, live in Springfield, Illinois.
As Treasurer, I will vow to safeguard the funds that the Gold Star Mission raises and expend these funds in accordance with the organization’s bylaws that have been approved by the membership. Furthermore, I promise to work toward the ongoing compliance of the Federal Internal Revenue Service recognized Non-for-profit (NFP) 501(c)(3) organization by ensuring only the expenditure of funds that meet the exemption requirements.
The qualifications that I bring to the position includes over 30 years of accounting and bookkeeping experience, with the last ten years as a Certified Internal Auditor and Certified Government Accounting Professional . I have also served on other NFP boards as treasurer, including the Knights of Columbus and the Lincoln Land High School Hockey Association.
Personally, I am a lifelong guard soldier that was in Battalion Command when the 1544th Transportation Company return from Operation Iraqi Freedom (OIF) after suffering four KIAs. The stress of these losses and the memory of those soldiers solidifies my involvement and support of this organization.
